The company positions it as a more affordable alternative to Fable 5.1 for programming and complex intellectual work. According to Anthropic's estimate, a typical task costs 40% less than when using Opus 5, and response generation has become more than 30% faster. The cost reduction comes from two factors. Opus 5.5 uses fewer tokens per task, and the tokens themselves have become 20% cheaper. A million input tokens costs $4 instead of $5, and output tokens cost $20 instead of $25. Cache reads have become 60% cheaper at once, from $0.50 to $0.20 per million tokens. This is especially noticeable in agentic scenarios and work with code, where the model constantly accesses already processed context. The accelerated mode for Claude Code and the API produces tokens up to 2.5 times faster. Its price is $8 per million input tokens and $40 per million output tokens.
